A scheduled earthquake drill was held at AlmaU in honor of Civil Protection Day

02.03.2026

On March 2, AlmaU conducted a scheduled earthquake drill for staff and students. The event was timed to coincide with March 1 – Civil Protection Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan – and aimed at practicing actions in case of an earthquake or emergency.

At the appointed time, a siren sounded in the university – an alarm signal was triggered through the notification system. Staff and students then began to act strictly according to instructions. Those on the first and second floors calmly exited the building through the main and emergency exits of the academic and sports buildings. Responsible staff and university service representatives assisted in maintaining order and calm.

Staff and students on the 3rd-6th floors did not evacuate outside. According to the rules, they moved into the corridors and occupied the safest areas marked with special indicators (“umbrellas”). This allowed them to practice the proper actions if a quick evacuation was not possible.

The designated assembly point was on the eastern side in front of the university building facing Rozibakiev Street. There, participants were lined up and attendance was checked.

The drill was led by Z. K. Sarsembayeva, Head of the Civil Protection Staff and Director of the Infrastructure Department.

During the drill, practical exercises and brief talks were held: how to safely leave the building, where to stand in the corridors, and what to do on different floors. Participants were reminded of useful items to have on hand, such as a flashlight and a whistle, to be prepared for any unforeseen situation.
