From August 30 to September 3, 2025, within the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the People’s Republic of China, the 8th meeting of the Kazakhstan–China Business Council was held in Beijing. The meeting was attended by the President of Kazakhstan and Vice Premier of the State Council of China, Ding Xuexiang.
Within the framework of the Council, agreements totaling $15 billion were signed between the two countries, covering key areas of bilateral cooperation such as energy, logistics, digitalization, agriculture, education, and science.
Particular attention was paid to academic and scientific cooperation. Thanks to the active work and strategic support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, more than 20 agreements were signed between universities of Kazakhstan and China. Among them was the agreement between Almaty Management University (AlmaU) and the University of Science and Technology of China, one of the leading scientific universities in China.
The document envisions broad cooperation, the development of academic mobility, the implementation of joint scientific projects, as well as the organization of internships and training programs for students and faculty members.
The event brought together more than 500 representatives of government agencies and business structures of Kazakhstan and China, including the heads of more than 70 of China’s largest corporations.
AlmaU was represented at the Council meeting by Rector and Founder of the university, Assylbek Kozhakhmetov, and Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships, Sholpan Tazabek. The discussions at the event focused on issues of the “green” economy, sustainable development, energy, and the formation of new logistics and production chains.
The Kazakhstan–China Business Council has been operating since 2013 as a key dialogue platform initiated by Samruk-Kazyna JSC and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Over the years, the Council has become an important tool for strengthening economic and investment ties between the two countries.
