On February 10, Sharmanov School of Health Sciences (SSHS) held an open meeting on «Clinical Psychology in Kazakhstan and the World». The event brought together students, teachers, and everyone interested in developing mental health and the professional community in this field. The seminar took place in person and created a lively, meaningful dialogue without formalities or dry theory.
The invited speaker was Sandugash Kansarovna Kudaibergenova – Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Assistant Professor at the Department of General and Applied Psychology at Al-Farabi KazNU, and psychologist at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan.
With extensive practical experience, the expert spoke about the formation and development of clinical psychology in Kazakhstan and worldwide, how clinical psychologists work today, and their role in the healthcare system. Participants discussed the challenges specialists face, the opportunities for the development of the field, and why it is especially important for doctors and psychologists to work together as a team. It was also emphasized that psychological support should be an integral part of treatment, not a secondary option.
The practical part of the seminar focused on suicide prevention – a complex but extremely important topic. Participants analyzed risk factors, strategies to help people cope with difficulties, early signs of crisis, and how to respond appropriately. They also discussed how and where to direct a person for professional help. Real case studies and practical exercises helped participants not only understand the theory but also learn how to notice warning signs in time and support a person in a difficult situation.
The seminar was an important event for everyone concerned with mental health.
