A regular meeting of the AlmaU Board of Trustees was held on September 23, 2023.
This year, Zhanat Berdalina handed over her post to Yerkin Tatishev.
During the meeting, various issues related to the academic program, scientific activities, financial planning, international relations, and staffing were discussed. Important strategic issues of the University’s development were considered.
As part of the announced transformation of AlmaU 2.0, the new chairman was asked to reconsider the approach to the university’s reporting to the Board of Trustees. On September 23, the Management report was presented, where each head presented a report on the work done and a work plan for the upcoming academic year.
Vice-Rector for Academic Development Asel Arynkyzy presented full reports on the university’s academic programs and presented the new AlmaU school of Transformative Humanities.
Vice-Rector for Science Bakytzhan Kurmanbayuly shared the changes and suggestions for the teaching staff who want to engage in science. The University provides special technical assistance (sending requests) to scientists engaged in science, and has implemented a CRI for the purpose of motivation.
This year, the university has passed the Ceeman international Re-accreditation until 2029. Asylbek Kozhakhmetov was awarded for outstanding cooperation with PRME as a member of the PRME Council. Ksenia Yuzhaninova-Karadenizli, Executive Director of the AlmaU School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, also joined the Babson Collaborative for Entrepreneurship Education Advisory Board. The SDG Legion AlmaU student Club has entered the top three student teams in the world. Almaty Management University has shown results on all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and ranked 801-1000 among higher education institutions in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023. Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships Aigerim Kaumenova also spoke about other achievements of the university.
Vice-Rector for Student Development and Support Didar Talapovich shared the ongoing work to support students: “AlmaU students are among the most in-demand specialists on the market. And their salary is much higher. In 2023, 75% of the students were employed. 62% received a job offer during their internship.”
The Board members discussed the results and drew conclusions, suggesting plans and innovative ideas to improve the work in the future. The status of academic programs was analyzed and measures for their improvement were proposed. The issues of digital transformation of the university were also discussed at the meeting.
The meeting of the Council emphasized the importance of collegial decision-making and cooperation between the members of the Council for the development of the university.
