Representatives of the program “Woman and Public Policy” of the John F. Kennedy School of Public Administration visited AlmaU University.
The American delegation held a lecture for the staff and students of the university on the topic “Women and the media, social entrepreneurship and public protection”.
The session was conducted by Dr. Heather Lamarr, Head of the Department of Communication and Social Impact at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communications, and Dr. Assel Kamza, Associate Professor at the AlmaU School of Media and Cinema. Among the speakers were the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland (1995-2003), a member of the famous Kennedy family Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, founder of Women Campaign International, member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1992-1995) Marjorie Margulies and internationally recognized researcher of intercultural communication, editor-in-chief of the journal Negotiation and Conflict Management Research Deborah Tsai.
During the discussion, the participants focused on women’s leadership, its role in public life, politics, and state economic development.
Kathleen Kennedy Townsend: “Try to create a good connection with the environment in which you are currently studying. Because tomorrow, when you enter the labor market, you will encounter exactly the people who surround you. The close connection we have created now will help you open more doors tomorrow.”
Marjorie Margulies, a 5-time Emmy Award winner for journalism at NBC, also spoke about her personal life and how to combine work and family responsibilities of a mother with many children. To succeed, a person must go beyond the usual environment and learn how to whip.
The women leaders of the United States answered questions from the faculty, exchanged views and took a photo at the end of the session.
