On July 29, 2025, AlmaU welcomed an official delegation from Calvin University (South Korea)*, led by the university’s president Dr. Hwang Kun-Young. The visit continued the dialogue initiated at the IAUP** conference held at the University of Johannesburg, where both parties first discussed potential academic cooperation.
The delegation included:
- Dr. Hwang Kun-Young – President of Calvin University
- In-Cheon Yeou – Dean of International Affairs
- Prof. Han Nelly – Interpreter, Professor at Abylai Khan KazUIR & WL
On the AlmaU side, the delegation was received by:
- Dr. Sholpan Tazabek – Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships
- Aliya Akpaeva – Director of the International Cooperation Department
- Timur Buldibaev – First Vice-Rector of AlmaU
During the meeting, the two sides discussed areas for future collaboration, including student and faculty exchange, joint academic programs, and study visits. They also explored the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). AlmaU and Calvin University expressed their willingness to officially formalize the partnership during their next meeting in South Korea.
Both parties expressed interest in organizing a meeting between Dr. Assylbek Kozhakhmetov, President of AlmaU, and Dr. Hwang Kun-Young, President of Calvin University, during the IAUP conference to be held in Seoul, Korea, from October 13 to 15, 2025. The strong and friendly relationship between the two presidents provides a solid foundation for a long-term and productive partnership.
The visit of Calvin University marks an important step in strengthening AlmaU’s ties with South Korean universities. AlmaU continues to actively develop international cooperation, providing its students and faculty with access to high-quality global education and academic opportunities.
