On April 6, the Institute of Urban Studies at AlmaU launched an intensive training and retraining program for civil servants working in the fields of architecture, urban planning, construction, and land relations.
The program is implemented under the поручение of the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Roman Sklyar, and is aimed at developing modern professional competencies in urban studies and city planning.
The course covers key areas of contemporary urban management, including the evolution of territorial planning approaches, international practices in urban development, zoning and land use tools, mechanisms for financing urban infrastructure, and the application of digital technologies in urban planning.
Participants include civil servants from departments of architecture, construction, land relations, housing and utilities, and related sectors from all regions of Kazakhstan.

“The quality of the urban environment largely depends on the quality of management decisions. Our goal is to equip civil servants with modern tools and an understanding of international standards so they can effectively apply best practices in their daily work,” note program coordinators Zarina Dauletkan and Ainur Zhubanova.
The program combines theoretical learning with practical training. Field sessions are planned at key urban facilities, including the Almaty Center for Labor Mobility and the city’s transport holding (ONAY!), where participants will work on real-life cases in transport analysis and participatory design.
The program is delivered by experts with international practical experience.

The training is conducted in two stages:
First cohort: April 6-10
Second cohort: April 20-24
Upon completion, participants will receive certificates of professional retraining.
