Planned city-wide earthquake drill held at AlmaU

14.05.2026

On May 14, AlmaU conducted a planned city-wide earthquake drill for staff and students. The event was aimed at practicing response actions in the event of an earthquake threat or occurrence.

At the scheduled time, the university alarm siren was activated, and a warning signal was issued through the notification system. After that, staff and students acted strictly according to the instructions. Those on the first and second floors evacuated the building in an organized manner through the main and emergency exits of the academic building and sports complex. They were guided by responsible staff and university services, helping to maintain order and calm.

Staff and students on the 3rd-6th floors did not evacuate outside. According to the rules, they moved into corridors and took the safest designated areas marked by special signs (“umbrella zones”). This helped practice the response algorithm in cases where rapid evacuation is not possible.

The designated assembly point was the eastern side in front of the university building on the Rozybakiev Street side. Attendance was checked and participants were assembled at the site.

The drill was led by the Head of the Civil Protection Headquarters, Director of the Infrastructure Department, Z. K. Sarsembaeva.

During the drill, practical sessions and short briefings were held on how to safely exit the building, where to stand in corridors, and what actions to take on different floors.

Participants were reminded of useful items to carry, such as a flashlight and a whistle, to be prepared for emergency situations.
