On April 25, 2026, students from various universities took part in a preliminary casting round, following which the top 5 teams were selected to participate in the annual dance competition “AlmaU Dance 2026.”
The main concept of the event was a music festival inspired by the Coachella atmosphere. Each team was randomly assigned a music genre and a corresponding dance style. The participants’ task was to prepare a full-scale stage performance with a clear concept, meaning, and artistic idea while strictly following the assigned genre and style.
The teams competed for the following prizes and special nominations:
1st place – 150,000 KZT;
2nd place – 100,000 KZT;
3rd place – 70,000 KZT;
Special nominations: “Best Concept” and “Audience Choice Award.”
Professional dancers, choreographers, and performance directors were invited as jury members to ensure an objective and professional evaluation of the performances.
On the day of the event, the audience witnessed breathtaking performances that contrasted greatly in style and artistic approach. The participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, carefully thinking through every detail – from stage images and costumes to props and overall presentation. Each performance became a unique story reflecting the team’s creative vision.
In addition to the competition program, guests enjoyed various Coachella-style activities, a photo booth, giveaways and prizes from sponsors, a buffet, and a final disco featuring a DJ set inspired by the atmosphere of Coachella 2016.
As members of the Cheerleaders student organization noted, the project was created not only as a dance competition but also as a platform for self-expression, creativity, and student development. The organizers aimed to show that dance is not only about technique, but also a language capable of conveying emotions, meanings, and ideas. The festival format encouraged participants to step beyond their comfort zones, discover their artistic identity, and become part of a vibrant celebration of music, dance, and creativity.
