
On May 29, the AlmaU staff chess team took part in the Corporate Chess Cup 2026, a national tournament that brought together representatives of leading companies, organizations, and educational institutions across Kazakhstan.
Among the participants were teams representing Kazakhmys, Freedom Holding, NCOC (North Caspian Operating Company), NAC Kazatomprom JSC, RTRK QAZAQSTAN JSC, Kaz Minerals Bozshakol, Mobile Telecom-Service LLP (Tele2/Altel), Khabar Agency JSC, Alstom, Allur, Air Astana, National Information Technologies JSC, QazaqGaz NC JSC, KazAgroFinance JSC, Astana Hub Corporate Fund, and many other major corporate organizations in the country.

The AlmaU team included Timur Buldybayev, Rector of AlmaU, Galym Kapyshev, Senior Lecturer at the School of Digital Technologies and Economics, Amirzhan Turalin, Chief Manager of the Research Office, and Daulet Khamit, Head of the AlmaU Student Chess Club. Through coordinated teamwork, analytical thinking, and competitive resilience, the team successfully represented the university at the national-level competition.

This marks the second consecutive year that AlmaU has participated in the tournament, demonstrating its commitment to the development of intellectual sports, corporate culture, and team collaboration. Following a series of intense matches, the AlmaU team secured 12th place in the overall standings of the 2026 tournament.

Participation in the Corporate Chess Cup provided AlmaU employees not only with an opportunity to compete against some of the strongest corporate chess players in Kazakhstan, but also with a platform for professional networking, knowledge exchange, and strengthening partnerships across different sectors.
