From 3 to 10 August 2026, Almaty will host the FIDE World University Team Chess Championship Finals, the inaugural FIDE World Team Chess Championship for universities.
The final stage will bring together 16 of the world’s strongest university teams representing North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Eight teams qualified through the international online qualification tournament, while another eight received Wild Card invitations from FIDE and the championship organizers.
Almaty Management University (AlmaU) has been awarded a Wild Card and will compete among the world’s leading university teams. AlmaU will represent Kazakhstan alongside Al-Farabi Kazakh National University i and the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism.
Participation in the FIDE World University Team Chess Championship provides AlmaU with an opportunity to showcase both the University and Kazakhstan’s higher education system on the international intellectual stage, while becoming part of a historic event that brings together the world’s strongest university chess teams for the very first time.
