On October 7, 2025, Almaty Management University was awarded a gold medal in the Smart Plastic Zone environmental project, implemented with the support of Coca-Cola Kazakhstan, the GreenUrban Association, and GPI-Lab. The project aims to reduce the plastic footprint and implement sustainable practices in business and education.

The Gold Label is awarded to facilities that have reduced their use of plastic to a minimum, utilized alternative materials, and separately collected and recycled plastic waste, achieving a score of over 500 points.

As part of the initiative, AlmaU has installed eight separate waste collection containers, mesh bins for PET bottles, organized collection for electronic waste and wastepaper, and installed a reverse vending machine for plastic recycling. The university is actively promoting a culture of responsible consumption: discounts are offered for eco-friendly behavior, and reusable cups, shopping bags, and drinking fountains are being introduced. Zhania Khaibullina, Director of the AlmaU Center for Sustainable Development, noted that the university systematically promotes the principles of sustainable development and responsible consumption among students and staff. The Smart Plastic Zone gold badge recognizes AlmaU’s contribution to the development of environmental responsibility and confirms the university’s commitment to ESG principles.
