Almaty Management University (AlmaU) has secured its place in the QS World University Rankings: Asia for the second consecutive year. In the 2027 edition, the university ranked in the 801–850 band among 1,722 Asian universities, placing 56th in Central Asia and 31st in Kazakhstan. These results reflect AlmaU’s continued engagement in the international higher education landscape and positive progress across key internationalization indicators.
This year, the number of universities included in the ranking increased by 200, reaching a total of 1,722 institutions. Despite the expanded pool of participants and growing competition, AlmaU maintained its position ahead of more than half of the universities featured in the ranking.
Being included in QS Asia holds particular significance for the university. Beyond international recognition, it provides an opportunity to benchmark its development against leading higher education institutions across the region, identify competitive advantages, and determine priorities for future growth.
One of AlmaU’s most notable achievements in the 2027 ranking was its improvement across three key internationalization indicators:
- International Faculty Ratio: Up 58 positions to 341st place.
- Inbound Exchange Students: Up 32 positions to 419th place.
- International Student Ratio: Up 4 positions to 485th place.
These improvements reflect AlmaU’s continued efforts to develop an international academic environment that brings together faculty members, researchers, and students from different countries.
Behind the positions in international rankings are not only quantitative indicators but also meaningful changes in the educational environment that directly shape the student experience.
Today, professional success depends not only on academic knowledge but also on the ability to work in an international environment, understand different cultural and business perspectives, communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, and adapt to change.
For AlmaU, internationalization goes beyond establishing partnerships with foreign educational institutions. It is about creating an environment where students gain the experience and competencies needed to build successful careers both in Kazakhstan and internationally.
The QS World University Rankings: Asia evaluates universities across 11 indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research performance, international collaboration, academic mobility, and other criteria. This comprehensive approach assesses universities not only in terms of teaching and learning but also through their research potential, graduate employability, international connections, and contributions to the academic community.
For AlmaU, participation in the ranking serves as an important tool for strategic development. The results enable the university to benchmark its performance against other Asian institutions, monitor progress over time, and make informed decisions to enhance its educational and research activities.
The improvement in internationalization indicators highlights the importance of AlmaU’s chosen development priorities. At the same time, the university views international rankings not as an end goal, but as one of the tools for assessing the quality and effectiveness of its work.
AlmaU’s inclusion in the QS World University Rankings: Asia for the second consecutive year, together with its improved internationalization indicators, marks another important milestone in its continued development as a university committed to collaboration, knowledge exchange, and integration into the global higher education community.
