During this meeting the Memorandum of Understanding on international educational cooperation between Almaty Management University and Ankara University of Social Sciences was signed.

Ankara University of Social Sciences (ASBU),

  1. is research-oriented,
  2. recognizes the importance of international cooperation,
  3. prioritizes the most relevant areas of research,
  4. includes the whole world as an area of interest,
  5. is enthusiastic about being a leading university in the development of social science education in Turkey,
  6. has one of the most extensive libraries in Turkey,
  7. is multilingual and multicultural,
  8. contributes positively to the surrounding community of the university.

ASBU was founded in 2013 in the center of Turkey’s capital city with the aim of conducting research in social sciences and is Turkey’s first and only public university in this field. ASBU is a research university for both undergraduate and doctoral studies. One of the main goals of the university is to publish social science research that contributes positively to the international literature. To this end, ASBU has a large number of research and application centers.

Research at ASBU does not have an understanding of the transfer of knowledge produced in the West with small contributions, it is based on the production of information that will contribute to the development of unique solutions to social, human, administrative, political, commercial and industrial problems at the local level. For this reason, like the world’s leading research universities, ASBU operates with an emphasis on research centers.

ASBU is not a campus university outside the city; it is an urban university that penetrates the fabric and veins of the city, intertwined with the community, which is a natural laboratory for the social sciences. As an urban university, ASBU provides an opportunity to integrate into the community and explore the dynamic structure of society.

ASBU carries out its educational and research activities in buildings of high historical, cultural and aesthetic value in Ulus, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Ankara. ASBU campus is located in historical buildings, including the first Prime Minister’s building of the Republic of Turkey. The Rectorate Building was built in 1925 by architect Yahya Ahmet-bey and served as the Prime Minister’s Building until 1937. After the 1950s, the building, which housed the treasury, was used by the Sub-Secretariat of Customs after 2001 and was transferred to ASBU in April 2013. The university campus is also adjacent to the tomb of Haci Bayram Veli, one of the oldest historical sites in Ankara, the 2,000-year-old archaeological Roman Baths of Ankara, Monumentum Ancyranum and the historical buildings of the Turkish Parliament. In this historical structure, the university intends to create an educational and research environment using modern technology and blend the past and the future in its structure.

ASBU’s undergraduate and graduate programs are designed with an interdisciplinary approach so that students can keep abreast of work from a variety of disciplines. The undergraduate and graduate programs allow students to take courses in different departments with a rich pool of elective courses and thus deepen and study in their areas of interest.

ASBU, which attaches great importance to multilingualism in education, provides students with opportunities to improve their language skills. In this context, the language center offers its students high quality language education together with Turkish and international experts. All programs are taught in English. ASBU students are not only able to master English at a high level, but are especially encouraged to learn a second foreign language.

AlmaU is very pleased with the new cooperation and looks forward to further fruitful collaboration!
