On November 1, 2024, AlmaU Rector Gulnara Kurenkeyeva participated as a speaker on the opening panel of the QS Higher Ed Pre-Summit: Asia Pacific 2024, held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The panel’s theme “A Bridge to the World: Higher Education in Central Asia” was dedicated to Central Asia’s unique role as a bridge between the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and the rest of the world. With its strategic position, universities in the region have an opportunity to equip students for the future and build international partnerships that draw on past successes.
The panel speakers had a topical discussion on transnational education, internationalization, and academic excellence across Central Asia. The speakers, including Nilly Castaño, Senior Consultant at QS Quacquarelli Symonds; Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University; Ulkar Sattarova, Director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of Azerbaijan; and Nigel Healey, Vice President for Global and Community Engagement at the University of Limerick, shared valuable insights.
Discussions centered on the current state of higher education in the region, addressing how institutions can meet both present and future needs. We examined what makes international collaborations effective and discussed regional stakeholders’ varying perspectives on these partnerships.
Almaty Management University congratulates Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, for hosting such a meaningful event. We are also grateful to QS Quacquarelli Symonds for inviting Rector Kurenkeyeva to speak on this opening panel.
