Almaty Management University (AlmaU) Ranked in the 801–1000 Band of the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026

03.07.2026

Almaty Management University (AlmaU) has been placed in the 801–1000 band of the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, strengthening its position among 1,603 universities worldwide and reaffirming its growing international recognition for its commitment to sustainable development, educational excellence, and positive societal impact.

The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings is one of the world’s most respected international university rankings. It assesses higher education institutions based on their contribution to achieving the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Unlike traditional global university rankings, which primarily focus on academic reputation, research output, and citation impact, the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings evaluate how effectively universities address global social, economic, and environmental challenges through their teaching, research, governance, community engagement, international collaboration, inclusivity, environmental initiatives, and strategic partnerships.

Participation in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings demonstrates that a university not only delivers high-quality education but also creates measurable impact by contributing to sustainable development and addressing pressing global challenges.

According to the 2026 results, AlmaU achieved strong performance across several Sustainable Development Goals.

The University’s highest achievement was in SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, where AlmaU ranked joint first among universities in Kazakhstan (alongside SDU University) and was recognized as one of the top seven universities in Central Asia. This result reflects AlmaU’s extensive international partnership network and its effective collaboration with government institutions, businesses, civil society organizations, and United Nations agencies.

Another notable accomplishment was in SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, where AlmaU was placed in the 301–400 band among 1,003 universities worldwide, positioning the University among the top 30% globally in this category. This recognition reflects the University’s strong career development services, support for student entrepreneurship, commitment to providing a safe and inclusive working environment, and the operation of an independent Ombudsperson’s Office.

In addition, AlmaU earned recognition in the following SDG categories:

  • SDG 5 – Gender Equality: 401–600 band among 1,095 universities worldwide;
  • SDG 15 – Life on Land: 301–400 band among 658 universities worldwide.

These achievements are the result of the collective efforts of AlmaU’s faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners.

AlmaU remains committed to advancing initiatives that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, strengthening international partnerships, and creating meaningful positive change in society, contributing to a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future.
