On May 16, the opening ceremony of the AlmaU Alumni Alley took place at Medeu Park. The Alley is a symbolic space that unites generations of alumni, university staff, and the broader university community around the ideas of continuity, sustainable development, and lasting connection with AlmaU.
As part of the event, alumni from the graduating years 2003-2007, 2009-2013, 2012-2016, and 2013-2015, together with university employees, planted 100 Malus Sieversii apple trees – a symbol of Almaty and a living heritage of Kazakhstan.
Each tree became a reflection of the alumni’s personal stories and their connection to the university. Participants placed personalized tags on the saplings as a symbol of their contribution and memory that will continue to grow together with the Alley.
The first tree was planted by AlmaU Rector Timur Buldybayev, launching a new university tradition aimed at strengthening the alumni community and building long-term connections between generations of AlmaU graduates.
The event brought together alumni, staff, students, and participants’ families in an atmosphere of unity, care for the future, and respect for the university’s values.
The AlmaU Alumni Alley will become not only an environmental contribution to the urban landscape, but also a place of memory where alumni can return for years to come.
