AlmaU has appointed Irina Khan as its new University Ombudsperson. She is a Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Professor Emerita, and Associate Professor at the AlmaU School of Media and Film. Irina Khan previously held this position from 2014 to 2017 and now returns to the role, bringing extensive experience in higher education, public administration, and university governance.
Irina Khan has been working at AlmaU since 2011. She currently serves as a member of the University’s Ethics Committee, Dean of the Department of Undergraduate Programs, and Advisor on Academic Affairs. She is also a member of the Academic Quality Committee of the School of Media and Film. Her professional background provides her with a comprehensive understanding of the interests and perspectives of different members of the university community, including students, faculty, and staff.
Irina Khan has 50 years of professional experience in higher education and public administration. Her career includes leading the Faculty of International Law and the Adilet School of Law, as well as working at the State Committee on National Policy. Her ten years of experience at a law university have given her a strong understanding of legal frameworks and the principles of interaction between different stakeholders.
In addition, Irina Khan heads the Public Speaking Laboratory and regularly participates in international conferences dedicated to education quality. In 2017, AlmaU awarded her the honorary title of Professor Emerita.
The Ombudsperson’s Office was established in 2014, initiated by the university’s staff and supported by the institution’s leadership. The primary mission of the Ombudsperson is to contribute to creating a safe, open, and respectful university environment where every student, faculty member, and staff member can discuss questions and concerns related to university life.
The Ombudsperson’s Office is therefore an important part of fostering a university culture built on mutual respect, trust, fairness, and constructive dialogue.
