01.06.2026

On May 28, 2026, AlmaU hosted a meeting between the university leadership and representatives of the Academy of Management, USA – one of the leading international professional associations bringing together researchers and experts in management and organizational sciences.

The visit of the Academy of Management representatives to Almaty took place as part of the CAP: Silk Road Workshop, Almaty, Kazakhstan – a two-day workshop aimed at developing academic cooperation, strengthening research capacity, and promoting management research from Central Asian countries at the international level.

The Academy of Management was represented by:

  • Marko Vukosavovic – Chief Financial Officer, Academy of Management
  • John Pescatore – Director of Content and Publications, Academy of Management
  • Irina Burns – Global Manager of the Community Accelerator Program and Senior Managing Editor, Academy of Management
  • Matthew Cronin – Professor, George Mason University.

The guests were welcomed by the following representatives of AlmaU:

  • Assylbek Kozhakhmetov – President and Founder of AlmaU
  • Ruslan Kozhakhmetov – Vice President of AlmaU
  • Sholpan Tazabek – Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships
  • Renata Kudaibergenova – Vice-Rector for Science and Commercialization
  • Saltanat Masakova – Deputy Dean for International Cooperation and Accreditation, School of Management
  • Aisha Musabekova – Deputy Dean for Research, School of Management.

The initial connection between representatives of AlmaU and the Academy of Management was established earlier during the BMDA conference in Lithuania, where the parties discussed shared professional interests and prospects for further cooperation. The meeting at AlmaU became a natural continuation of this dialogue and provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of collaboration in greater detail.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on key issues in the development of business education and management science. Particular attention was paid to the use of artificial intelligence in education, the development of mentorship, the research agenda, academic publications, the impact approach, and the role of universities in advancing modern management.

Renata Kudaibergenova, Vice-Rector for Science and Commercialization at AlmaU, proposed several practical formats for cooperation, including inviting representatives of the Academy of Management to contribute to AlmaU’s academic journal “Colloquium” as authors, editors, or experts, as well as developing co-authored publications in Scopus-indexed and other leading international academic journals.

The parties also separately discussed the participation of the Academy of Management representatives in the Annual General Meeting of the UN PRME Chapter Eurasia, held on May 28, 2026, at Narxoz Business School. Since 2021, AlmaU has been one of the co-founders of the UN PRME Chapter Eurasia, together with KIMEP, Narxoz, and other universities, which highlights the university’s active role in promoting responsible management education and international academic cooperation in the region.

The meeting was held in an open and productive atmosphere. The participants noted the strong potential for cooperation between AlmaU and the Academy of Management in research, publication activity, academic community development, and the promotion of Central Asian management science at the global level.
