On April 13-14, a student chess league tournament was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event served as a qualifying stage for the Republican Championship among universities of Kazakhstan.
A total of 20 universities participated, but only the top 5 teams advanced to the next stage. The tournament was held in a 4+2 team format – four male and two female players.
AlmaU was represented by:

In a tough and competitive battle, the team showed strong character in decisive rounds and secured 3rd place. This result qualified AlmaU for the Republican tournament.
Individual performances were also outstanding:
Nurasyl Zhumabek – 8.5 out of 9
Zhangir Bizhigitov – 8 out of 9
Both players took 1st place on their boards, demonstrating excellent form and consistency.
