In today’s environment, researchers must possess not only in-depth scientific knowledge but also understand the mechanisms of technology transfer, intellectual property protection, funding, interaction with industrial partners, and bringing research results to market.
To develop these competencies, the AlmaU Technology Commercialization Center developed the From Lab to Market educational program, aimed at developing practical skills in the commercialization of scientific and technical research results.
The pilot 72-hour course brought together 22 participants—faculty, young scientists, researchers, and AlmaU research project managers interested in the practical application of research results and the development of innovative entrepreneurship.
The educational program included a set of interconnected thematic modules covering the key stages of technology commercialization:
* Fundamentals of innovation and technology transfer;
* Assessing the commercial potential of scientific developments and the technology readiness level (TRL);
* Developing business models and value propositions;
* intellectual property protection and patent strategy;
* preparing investment proposals and presenting projects to potential investors;
* mechanisms for attracting grant and venture capital funding;
* interacting with industrial partners and bringing technologies to market.
Particular attention was paid to practical work. During the training, participants analyzed their own research projects, developed commercialization roadmaps, formulated business concepts, and prepared final presentations for the expert committee.
The program’s implementation was an important step in fostering a culture of technological entrepreneurship and the commercialization of scientific results at AlmaU. The Center for Technology Commercialization plans to launch a commercial version of the program with the participation of leading experts, business representatives, investors, patent specialists, and international practitioners, which will expand the training opportunities for researchers to successfully bring innovative developments to market.
