Samsung Electronics launched the Eco-Box programme in Kazakhstan to accept and recycle old smartphones, tablets, accessories and other small-sized equipment.
In 2022, the programme was launched in Almaty universities to encourage Kazakhstani students to take care of the environment. The Almaty universities included KIMEP University, Al-Farabi KazNU, Almaty Management University, Satbayev University, AUES University and Narxoz University.
In June 2023, Samsung Electronics announced Samsung Recycling School (Ecoproject) competition among universities in Almaty, where AlmaU participated. The condition of this competition was to collect more electronic devices such as:
- -Smartphones
- -Tablets
- -Smart watches
- -Headphones
- -Electronic Pen
- -Keyboard Case
- -Chargers
- -Memory cards
- -Hard discs
- -Battery packs
- -USB cables
- -USB storage devices.
According to the results of counting the collected electronics waste from Eco-boxes as part of the Samsung Recycling School competition, AlmaU was among the three leaders.
Nargiz Akhmetova, Head of the Academic Mobility Office and the new Student Council President were invited to the “Come to the Green side!” event, where an Eco-sculpture made of electronics waste was presented and prizes were awarded to the winners of the Samsung Recycling School. According to the results of the competition, AlmaU took 2nd place with a prize – The Freestyle projector.
These eco-boxes are located on the AlmaU campus on the 1st floor where AlmaU students, staff and faculty can recycle their old devices.
